cronusX - As viral as you like

Think this is going to be the last in the epic posts that have followed cronusX's little life, from back in the day when he was still called X to today, when the viral version finally goes live.

Here's where we're hosting it: X
I still need to finish off the stat widgets ( So I guess this isn't the last post, oh well, you can't blame me for at least trying to kill it off ) but baring any bugs that people on portals will almost cream themselves over telling me about, it's done.

Nice.

    I'm sorry mate, but I don't understand your comment. At all.

    Just click that "X" link and shoot some stuff.

    Hands down still one of the best Flash shooters ever.

    Also, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but I spotted the following error messages (the ole 1009!):

    After GYW Splash...

    TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
      at Classes::SoundHandler/startMod()
      at Classes::Init/preAttractComplete()
      at Classes::Init/waitingForCookiesToLoad()

    ...and after selecting PC Type...

    TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
      at Classes::SoundHandler/startMod()
      at Classes::Init/preAttractComplete()
      at Classes::PreAttract/preAttract_finished()
      at Classes::PreAttract/goodButtonPressed()

    Just a heads up. :)

    Thanks for the feedback mate, it all helps.

    That's such a weird bug. I noticed when loading the sharedObjects if they are over a certain size ( Still tiny ) the hd couldn't get them to Flash quickly enough which would cause problems ( Hence my waitingForCookiesToLoad() method ).

    I think what's happened is that on your first play it's realised that the sO doesn't exist, so creates it, then returns back to the game getting the volume from the newly created sO. Because it's not had chance to finish writing the sO it falls over.

    How obscure is that ? :)

    Anyway I've put a little 10 frame wait in there now, which should fix it.

    Add the "Mute" or "Mute music" button - otherwise it's just impossible to play.
    Add the pause when the flashplayer loses focus.
    Add the possibility to unpause game using only mouse. Player can accidentally move their mouse out of the screen and then they need to get through the whole keyboard to the letter P and press it and then quickly move their hand back to wasd.

    Nice gameplay and sound effects, cool idea with pausing when mouse cursor is out of the screen.

    "Add the "Mute" or "Mute music" button - otherwise it's just impossible to play."

    Not impossible, just annoying to you :) In the options menu there's a mute option.

    "Add the possibility to unpause game using only mouse"

    If I do that it means if you wanted to quit you'd have to re-pause by pressing p, as just clicking to resume the game would mean that when you regain focus you won't have a chance to press q.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    "In the options menu there's a mute option. "

    I don't know where the options menu is, but I stopped playing this game only because of the music that I didn't know how to turn off. The mute option MUST be on the main game screen. Lots of people either listen to their own music while playing, or prefer the silence. Don't make the user navigate hundreds of menus (or even one menu) only to stop the music - let them turn it off with just one click. Maybe even without pausing.

    "If I do that it means if you wanted to quit you'd have to re-pause by pressing p, as just clicking to resume the game would mean that when you regain focus you won't have a chance to press q. "

    You can make a button "unpause" somewhere on the pause screen. It is not necessary to unpause by clicking anywhere.

    "Thanks for the feedback."

    No problem. Sorry if I sound rude, I just think there are very simple mistakes that make a cool game look not-so-cool.
