LotW Pirated Version

We have recently discovered that one of our sponsored games is out there in a pirated version.

I know that is is part of the deal to spread a game as much as possible, but when someone hacks the (encrypted) game and removes all that what makes it a sponsored game ... I get pissed. I mean it was for "free" anyway.

So fellow flash developers, have a look at your stats and see if your games happen to be run from this domain:

These guys steal games, and use hacked versions.

Of course the loading screen ad has been bypassed too.

There is money involved so I think it's my damn right to be pissed. I have contacted them, let's see what happens.

    Ouch, I feel your pain.

    If you had made the logos part of the actual background image then he couldn't have removed it without doing some Photoshop editing first (the links could easily still have been added), but hindsight is a wonderful thing :(

    Did you just encrypt the swf or was it obfuscated too? (also I'm curious if the game was AS2 or AS3?). Finally were the logos added into a movieclip, or placed on via AS code? It must be much easier for them to remove logos in that manner as opposed to ones displayed via obfuscated AS.

    Yeah,

    it teaches me to bake the logo into the main background, but I must admit I was quite lazy and didn't want to do the whole thing again (it's an ugly piece of photoshop work).

    As for security ... it was obfuscated (source) and encrypted (swf), all things placed by code (and attached from the lib) :|

    Though, the game was neither AS2 nor AS3, it was just plain old (as it was written with flash 5) AS1.

    Flcking unbelievable. You know, we have some of the most brilliant programmers in the world working in viral F;ash games. I'm sure we can come up with an appropriate response to these assholes...

    That's pretty disturbing.  The stuff is free and I guess you had a five second mochi ad or something - it's supposed to be a win-win for everybody.

    We'll help you sh*t on these guys, just keep us updated.

    thanks for your encouragement.

    As a minor update, after 3 days of intense logfile reading, registering at ibarcade sites, pm'ing the owners/admins we finally found the source of the hack.

    What really pissed me of most that it must be a good deal of decompiling in order to read through my source, and I never use  timeline code (except a stop() here and there), always do late binding of the events ... you get the point.

    Something that would have taken four minutes for me to change (including compiling and upload). A quick email (or using the form on our main site) would have done it.

    It would have been good exposure for the game and the arcade could have used it. I don't get it that they don't ask more.

    I hope we can address when we lauch our new side project (SICO is a part of it) where we hope to get a lot of people involved.

    I take it very personally if things are done without a good reason, what that little **** did to our game had no good reason.

    nGFX. Count 8bitrocket in for what ever you may need. I'm a little confused as to what software you WERE using to encrypt / obfuscate and how they were about to remove your stuff. Did they juts go in the library and change the logo clips to blanks? Were you guys using AS3 or AS2? Were any files loaded in externally?

    thanks for the supply.

    I first used a tool call "ActionScript Obfuscator Lite" on the source and then "SWFencrypt 4.0".

    I think I already mentioned that LotW was some quite old AS1 code. And as it was ment to be spread it was all in one file.

    Lesson learned.

    I wonder how vulnerable AS3 is? Have you heard of any attacks on AS3 games? I sure there is a way.

    That latest soThink decompiler can get at as3, not perfectly, but enough ( I've had to use it when I got a bit delete happy when I was working on Brain Voyage ), and a friend of mine told me he knows how my plasma effect works now 'cause of it.
