Gaming Your Way

It's finally beta testing time. If you've got 10 mins you wouldn't mind spending shooting things then please leave a comment with a valid email address and I'll post you over a link ( Sorry we're doing it this way, but we don't want a half finished game turning up on shovelware portals ).

Couple of notes, the captcha thing is a pain in the arse. We cracked and removed it the other day, and within 10 mins the blog was being spammed to death, so we've had to re-instate it. I've found entering the letters in lower case seems to work more often than not. Just double check your comment has been posted, as we never delete comments which aren't spam.
If you're concerned about handing over your email, really, don't be. You should know how lazy we are by now, there's is no way we'd use your email address for anything naughty. You could probably send us your credit card details and it would have expired by the time we got round to doing anything with them.

Speak to you soon,

< Update - The beta is now closed, thanks everyone for your great feedback >

    Yes, please!

(re: the CAPTCHA challenge, at least it's very easily human-readable, so I don't find it that much of a bother.)

Could it be the captcha ( or the page session or other aspx stuff ) has a time-out? I feel it works ok after the page just loaded, but fails when trying after writing an essay. Just my two cents.

My blog sends me an email with each comment and only when I click the link in that mail, the comment gets posted. This works quite well for me ( mind you, I have an average of 2 comments per month - of which 1.8 are spam )

DNAge you say? Sorry mate, I've been in deadline hell for the last couple of weeks. All work, no play. Not even yours.

    Cheers,
    bas

Here's a possible solution to your captcha issues:
    haacked.com/.../honeypot-captcha.aspx

Basically, no real person has to enter a captcha, but bots will detect a field and fill it in, so you just trash any comments that have that hidden field filled. Voila!

    Go on then... :-)

But you have to test mine when it's ready too!

(ps. @Matthew, unfortunately i have had experiences with automatic form fillers like the one built into google chrome actually filling in these honeypot fields)

Thanks everyone for your great feedback. Lots of common themes for me to focus on, which makes life so much easier.

Thanks for the captcha tips too, that's more Olli's field than mine. It could be fine, I am a bit of a twat when it comes to captcha's, I have a blind spot with printers too, I can fuck up a printer from 20 feet.

Oh and Bas, putting your own work before mine, selfish mate. Selfish. ;)

Thanks again, I know its a pain having to ask to play it rather than me just post the link, and it makes me all the more grateful.
